< BIO > Breathing new life into an old craft, BigBrother pushes further beyond the boundaries of conventional hip hop to discover new and innovative ways to keep your stereo and speakers well fed. Growing up as a student of the 80’s hip hop movement, a great deal of knowledge and respect for the culture was passed on and embedded into his work. “I try to come at it from all angles; it keeps me from getting bored with the same style.” BigBrother grew up in Vancouver, British Columbia. Graffiti art was his first introduction to hip hop culture where he soon spawned interest in beat mixing and production. Driven with the same attention to detail that was present in his art he began creating mixtapes using the old technique called “tape pausing”. It was only a matter of time until he took the next logical step to turntables as he began the ongoing search for sample worthy vinyl. It was then that he began to slip deeper and deeper into music and sound production. He spent the following years studying the art of film scoring and composition. These years proved to play a very important role in developing his knowledge on instruments from around the globe. Now combined with the skills he had already acquired as a beat producer and mixer the possibilities seemed endless. BigBrother began working with such Vancouver underground hip hop artists as Gemineye and Attikus which soon expanded to an on going contract with the politically charged Conspirtuality Records. BigBrother resides somewhere between a turntablist and beat composer; a hip hop beat mechanic... one who loves to build and dismantle hip hop music and is not afraid to get his hands dirty. He is currently working with several artists in the Vancity area and abroad. Stay tuned…
