Jason
Stubbington is a native of Surrey,
British Columbia, Canada. Growing up,
Jason was exposed to many different
styles and genres of music. He grew very
interested in the urban music scene that
seemed to be taking New York and the
east coast of America
by
storm in the early 80's. He began making
music in his teenage years where he
started experimenting with electronic,
hip-hop and world music.
During this time Jason became very
fluent in computers and the art of using
technology to develop sound. Becoming
more and more interested in music
production and computers he began
studying the techniques and craft behind
working as an audio designer and sound
technician. He then began working as a
music producer with several artists in
the surrounding area. His experience
with bands ranged in musical style from
alternative to funk to hip-hop. While
working along side these musicians, he
began developing his own sound and
started working as an arranger and
producer for rap artists under the
name... BigBrother.
Having also
developed skill in video editing and
graphic design, Jason decided to expand
his work to include composing for film.
Working along side film students who
were developing projects in his
surrounding area, he spent a great
amount of time perfecting the skill of
creating organic music using
synthesizers and computers. Jason found
a lot of music made with technology in
the past had a very
lifeless, non-organic feel or sense of
rigidness. He was determined to create
music that could fool the listener into
thinking they were hearing something
much closer to live musicians than
microchips and keyboards. After working
on several projects ranging from short
film to corporate video, Jason decided
to start a music production company
called Athorn Sound. His company
would be built on the creative
foundation of "emotion" and "diversity".
These are key elements to anyone that is
looking to bring their visual production
to the next level with music.
